The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), has conducted an on-site inspection of major tourism development projects at Ruaha National Park, directing the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) to ensure all projects are completed on time and made operational to strengthen tourism growth in southern Tanzania.
Dr. Kijaji made the remarks on December 18, 2025, during an official working visit to the park, where she inspected projects implemented under the REGROW programme. The projects include the construction of Kiganga Airstrip, a Visitor Information Centre (VIC), tourist cottages, and an Ecological Monitoring Centre.
She stressed that timely completion of the projects is critical to unlocking the full potential of the southern tourism circuit and increasing tourist arrivals in line with the Government’s target of reaching eight million tourists by 2030.
“These projects must be completed according to the agreed timelines with contractors so that southern tourism can fully open up, attract more visitors, and contribute to achieving the Government’s tourism targets,” said Dr. Kijaji.
TANAPA Conservation Commissioner, CPA Musa Nassoro Kuji, said Ruaha National Park continues to diversify its tourism products while attracting investors to enhance the park’s visibility, visitor numbers, and revenue.
He noted that the park plans to introduce new tourism experiences such as horse riding tourism, hot spring spa tourism, and natural pillars viewing, which, together with the completion of infrastructure projects, will significantly boost tourism performance.
